New page

== Hull Speed (vk_hull) ==
The hull speed of a a displacement vessel is defined by the maximum length of the wave within which the hull may generate in displacement.

vk_hull = 1.34 * sqrt(L)

Typically the length used for hull speed is that of the waterline. Since ASV Angelina expresses significant overhang, as the vessel begins to experience squat the waterline length is expected to increase. Therefore the maximum hullspeed may be taken as some combination between that of the waterline to that of the overall length.

vk_hull_lwl = 1.34 * sqrt(25.00) = 6.70 ''kn''

vk_hull_loa = 1.34 * sqrt(35.63) = 8.00 ''kn''

We can now reasonably predict that our maximum hullspeed will be between 6.70 ''kn'' and 8.00 ''kn''.
